PLEASE READ THIS PAGE BEFORE YOU POST TO THE WIKI.

We wanted to provide some instructions and a few guidelines for contributors.

ALA Learning Wiki Sharing Guidelines
The ALA Learning Wiki, your clearinghouse for tools and resources related to training and learning, is also a communicative and collaborative environment for fellow site builders. Wiki pages and content elements include a comment feature to allow visitors to leave feedback about resources. The wiki also includes a discussion forum for engaging fellow site builders. The ALA Learning Round Table will not censor or edit content contributed to the site, unless it violates Wetpaint’s
terms of use or shows disregard of professionalism. Wiki administrators reserve the right to modify or delete wiki content at their discretion. Please be especially mindful of copyright when sharing content. Repeat violation of these guidelines may result in banning from the ALA Learning Wiki.

Format For Posts
Please follow as closely as possible the style and formatting of comparable pages in the wiki.

Give Credit!
When in doubt, be sure to get permission before sharing resources, and always give credit to the source.

Making Resources Accessible
If you are linking to information that is posted elsewhere on the world-wide web, you can just link directly to the url; however, if a file you want to share is housed in a restricted intranet site or a local drive, you will need to upload the data, and there are a number of ways to do that:
  1. Paste to a New Page. If the data you want to add is mostly text, you may simply add a new page to this wiki and copy and paste the information to the new page. PLEASE NOTE: If the document is over 200 KB, please do not add the data directly to the site as our storage space on WetPaint's server is strictly limited.
  2. Upload to ALA Connect. Files larger than 200 KB may be uploaded to the Learning Round Table's server on the ALA Connect website, and linked to them on this wiki. If you are not a member of the round table, or don't know how to upload files on ALA Connect, simply provide the files to Jay Turner (jturner@gwinnettpl.org) or Richard Mott (rmott@coj.net), site administrators, and they will upload them for you.
  3. Store Elsewhere Online. By using WetPaint's terrific Widget feature, you can store your data on another website (and use their server space!) and have it appear on one of this wiki's pages. This works with storage sites such as YouTube, DocStoc, and PhotoBucket, and I haven't tested it, but I bet it works with SlideShare, too.
Advanced Posting Tips
  • Insert anchor links so you can jump to another part of a long page. These instructions worked for me (Be sure to include the page's url in the "href" code).
